This conference will deal with the ancient history of Cambodia (5th – 15th century) based on Khmer art and particularly on statuary. More than a simple description of Khmer art and its evolution, our aim will be to show that these artistic masterpieces can contribute to a new reading of the ancient history of the Khmer country.
OUR SPEAKER: Jean-Michel Filippi is currently an invited lecturer in the Royal University of Phnom Penh where he teaches Khmer linguistics. He had previously been a specialist of languages and civilizations of Eastern Europe where he lived till 1995.
