The November 1963 execution of President Ngo Dinh Diem in a US-sanctioned coup was one of the most consequential events in the short life of the Republic of Vietnam - aka. South Vietnam. It is believed that Diem used this tunnel, (now part of the Museum of Ho Chi Minh City) for his escape to a Cholon church, prior to his capture and murder.
